Young Adult Series That Adults Should Read…(May)
The Madison Avery Series by Kim Harrison is a YA series that adults will enjoy. There are currently three books in the series and a fourth book out this month.
Seventeen, dead, and in charge of heaven’s dark angels—all itching to kill someone.
My name is Madison Avery, and I’m here to tell you that there’s more out there than you can see, hear, or touch. Because I’m there. Seeing it. Touching it. Living it.
Madison’s prom was killer—literally. For some reason she’s been targeted by a dark reaper—yeah, that kind of reaper—intent on getting rid of her, body and soul. But before the reaper could finish the job, Madison was able to snag his strange, glowing amulet and get away.
Now she’s stuck on Earth—dead but not gone. Somehow the amulet gives her the illusion of a body, allowing her to toe the line between life and death. She still doesn’t know why the dark reaper is after her, but she’s not about to just sit around and let fate take its course.
With a little ingenuity, some light-bending, and the help of a light reaper (one of the good guys! Maybe . . . ), her cute crush, and oh yeah, her guardian angel, Madison’s ready to take control of her own destiny once and for all, before it takes control of her.
Well, if she believed in that stuff.

Dark Enchantment
Here's the official summary:
A sultry dream can become a real-life nightmare…
Tax consultant Charlotte Bennett isn’t the type to lose control. Until she’s seduced in a dream by a handsome, rugged man named Kieran. In her dream state, she decides to let loose, letting pleasure and desire lead the way. But she quickly discovers her “safe” night of passion has dangerous repercussions.
The lust-driven dream was in fact a magick illusion that’s left Charlotte indefinitely bound to a controlling fae named Kieran. Under his order, she must find the last piece of a powerful relic. Only Charlotte knows the location of the bosca fadbh, but the knowledge is hidden deep within her bloodline—and only wicked magick can draw it out.
Forced to work with the enticing Kieran, she finds it hard to escape their seductive chemistry. Even though he’s harboring a deadly curse, one that puts Charlotte in danger—and could make this attraction fatal…
Review
The Dark Magick series gets better with each book. Dark Enchantment is the third book of the series and it is the best so far. I absolutely LOVED Dark Enchantment from start to finish and I hated that the book had to end. It follows perfectly in the footsteps of the first two books and it picks up shortly after the second book left off.
I immediately liked Charlotte’s character. She was surprisingly sassy. As an accountant who has lived a very directed and sheltered life due to her overbearing father, the last thing you expect from her is a fiery spirit, but she has it. Kieran is drool worthy. A handsome, strong, very powerful Unseelie, who can kill with his mind or make you have the most erotic dream you’ve ever imagined, it’s quite to potent combo.
I love the gradual build-up of Kiernan and Charlotte’s romance. They both have prejudices of the other that they have to get over before they can truly work together and trust each other. Kiernan is cursed where if he falls in love with someone and that person returns his love, they will both die. The curse makes any love between the main characters tragic and full tension.
Dark Enchantment has plenty of action, twists, turns and obstacles. You will not be disappointed or bored. Lovers of dark fantasy will enjoy this book.
I gave this book a 4.5 out of 5

The Art of Seducing a Naked Werewolf
Here's the official summary:
Baring It All
Generations of werewolves have been secretly residing in a secluded valley a stone’s throw from Grundy, Alaska. So when a snooping Outsider comes to Grundy to investigate rumors of lycanthropic shenanigans in the area, the valley’s pack alpha, Maggie Graham, resolves to chase him away, even if doing so takes a quick bite on the butt. What a pity that researcher Nick Thatcher turns out to be so drool-worthy, and that his kisses make Maggie want to sit up and beg.
Maggie just can’t seem to convince Nick to leave . . . and even worse, she can’t convince herself to stay away from him. Cross-species dating is problem enough for a harried alpha female, but on top of that, a rival group of werewolves is trying to move into the valley. With interpack war threatening, Maggie can’t afford to be distracted. Combining romance and a career can be tough for anyone; for a werewolf in love with a human, it may be disastrous. . .
Review
The Art of Seducing a Naked Werewolf is the second book in Molly Harper’s Naked Werewolf series. I loved the first book in this series however, the second book fell short for me. The somewhat suspenseful sub-plot was not done as well as it had been in the last book. It didn’t keep me engaged and it was somewhat predictable.
The build up of Nick and Maggie’s relationship was the slow, taking awhile to progress anywhere. I felt that while Maggie admits her feelings early on, she does everything in her power to go against those feelings. Then one day suddenly all her reservations about why they couldn’t work, don’t matter anymore. She didn’t seem to have an epiphany, just poof and they are happy.
Maggie was very childish in the first book, and I had some reservations about her ability to be a strong enough character to hold my interest throughout the second book. While she did do some growing up and maturing throughout the story, there was nothing about her had me liking or even relating to her as a character.
For the most part I enjoy Nick’s character. He was the handsome nerdy hero. He was so patient with Maggie, and tolerant of her crazy antics. But there were times that I wanted him to be a little more alpha with her. I would have enjoyed watching Nick come in and demand, even expect a little more from her.
I gave this book a 3 out of 5
Favorite Quotes:

How to Flirt with a Naked Werewolf
Here's the official summary:
Northern Exposure
Even in Grundy, Alaska, it’s unusual to find a naked guy with a bear trap clamped to his ankle on your porch. But when said guy turns into a wolf, recent southern transplant Mo Wenstein has no difficulty identifying the problem. Her surly neighbor Cooper Graham—who has been openly critical of Mo’s ability to adapt to life in Alaska—has trouble of his own. Werewolf trouble.
For Cooper, an Alpha in self-imposed exile from his dysfunctional pack, it’s love at first sniff when it comes to Mo. But Cooper has an even more pressing concern on his mind. Several people around Grundy have been the victims of wolf attacks, and since Cooper has no memory of what he gets up to while in werewolf form, he’s worried that he might be the violent canine in question.
If a wolf cries wolf, it makes sense to listen, yet Mo is convinced that Cooper is not the culprit. Except if he’s not responsible, then who is? And when a werewolf falls head over haunches in love with you, what are you supposed to do anyway? The rules of dating just got a whole lot more complicated. . .
Review
I loved this book! This has to be the funniest books that I have read this year, and I could not help but laugh as I read it. It has sassy wit and comical characters. Mo was so witty and fun that I could not wait to see what she was going to say next. I enjoyed watching Cooper, the werewolf’s story play out. Harper manages to create a plot where moments of intense danger intersperse with scenes that had me laughing so hard I had wipe tears from my eyes. I enjoyed how Harper added mystery, comedy, romance, with a few twists and turns along the way without one overshadowing the other. I read it in one sitting, helplessly drawn to turn one page after another until it was done. If you are looking for a light, funny, paranormal/contemporary romance I’d highly recommend this one.
I gave this book a 4 out of 5
Favorite Quotes:
“Some people were just born with a pinecone shoved up their butts, in Cooper’s case, it’s lodged sideways”
“This was not coffee. This was the stuff you’d scrape from under Satan’s toenails.”
“Stupid werewolf ninja sperm”
“You know how some people just rub you the wrong way? Well, Cooper’s my own personal sandpaper.”

Vampire Mine
Here's the official summary:
Nothing on earth can make this vampire fall in love . . .
After 499 years of existence, Connor Buchanan has arrived at an inescapable conclusion: he is a cold-hearted SOB. He's been watching his friends—those poor romantic fools—plummet off the cliff into love like a dazed herd of sheep. But not Connor. He knows that love leads to nothing but heartache.
Until Marielle . . .
She is an angel cast down from heaven for disobedience. Trapped in mortal form, she finds a protector in Connor, a Scottish vampire haunted by a dark past. Marielle hopes to heal his broken heart and earn her way back home, but suddenly she has these . . . feelings. This strange yet pleasant physical yearning—for a vampire! Is this the work of a demon luring her into hell, or has this angel found heavenly bliss?
Review
Vampire Mine by Kerrelyn Sparks is the tenth book in the Love at Stake series. Fans of this series have been very eager for Vampire Mine to come out, as Connor has caught many readers interest. The series does not have very complex story lines but instead focuses on the romance. It is a light hearted, sweet romance, with moments that make you laugh out loud and a bit drama and action. The romance between Connor Buchanan and Marielle is quite charming. The fallen angel from heaven and the vampire damned to hell are on a journey to meet in the middle and find love on earth. If you are a fan of Kerrelyn Sparks, this book is a wonderful addition to her collection and you will enjoy the updates in the lives of so many of her characters. All in all, this book was a fun read and a nice way to pass the time.

Navarro’s Promise
Synopsis
In the wolf breed novel, NAVARRO’S PROMISE, Mica Toler’s best friend is the wolf/coyote hybrid breed, Cassie Sinclair. And now Mica is being drawn into her world in ways she had prayed she never would be when the charming wolf breed Navarro makes good on the promise he made her on a dark, explosive night.
The Breeds guaranteed that no harm would come to Micah Toler but they never allowed for her sensual fascination with Navarro Blaine. Aloof, cool, and mysterious, he draws her in as no man ever has. But Micah never wanted this. She had her own dreams, her own desires, and being stalked and seduced by a wolf breed wasn’t part of that plan.
Now she knows her life is in danger. What Navarro knows is that she’s his mate and that the breeding and training that created him is being peeled away in his desperation to claim a woman that refuses to be claimed.
He has her body. She craves his touch. And as the breeds converge the past will rise up to haunt Navarro in ways he never expected.
Review
Navarro’s Promise by Lora Leigh is the twenty third book in the Breads series. The first five books were published by Ellora’s Cave and are erotica. I’m not sure that the later books are considered erotica, but they are still very steamy. I started this series with book seven, Megan’s Mark. Even though I’m not a huge fan of erotica, I find myself liking this series. The storyline is in-depth, emotional, the dangers great and the love is epic.
I have to say this was my least favorite of the Breeds series. There was no advancement of the overall Breeds story line. It was not horrible, but it was clearly hurried. I felt that Navarro and Mica's relationship was a bit underdeveloped. The best part of any love story is when the characters are getting to know one another. That entire phase of the story was completely glossed over here, with just the convenient plot device that they've known one another forever. I found Navarro really difficult to embrace. I didn't hate the character but at the same time, I just didn't love him either. Neither Navarro or Mica brought up strong feelings in me as I read though the book.
EDITING!!! Her books always contain faults in editing. This time I had to reread so many parts because I felt like I missed something. Once we got to the ending I am not exactly even sure what happened. The locations started changing and I had no idea how we got from place A to place B. It was like part of the story was missing.
I gave this book a 2 out of 5

But involving Cara will prove treacherous, even beyond the maddening, dangerous desire that seizes them the moment they meet. For staving off eternal darkness could have a staggering cost: Cara's life.
Review
Eternal Rider is the first book in Larissa Ione new Lords of Deliverance series. Which is a spin-off of Ione’s Demonica series. It is set in the same world as Demonica, but with four new main characters, which are the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. This book focuses on the story of Ares, also know as the horseman War and he is an extraordinary character. His is strong, powerful and drips sensuality. I really enjoyed Ione’s interpretation of the Four Horseman and the Apocalypse and thought it to be creative and fascinating. I feel it offers everything fans of Demonica have come to expect; action, dark wit, sensuality, well developed characters, and exceptional world building. I think this is Ione’s best book to date. If you are a fan of Ione’s previous paranormal books then you should definitely check out Eternal Rider!
I gave this book a 5 out of 5

The Vampire Voss
Synopsis
Voss, also known as Viscount Dewhurst, relishes the sensual pleasures immortality affords. A member of the Dracule—a cabal of powerful, secretive noblemen marked with a talisman that reveals their bartered souls—the mercenary Voss has remained carefully neutral…until Angelica.
Angelica Woodmore possesses the Sight, an ability invaluable to both sides of a looming war among the Dracule. Her very scent envelops Voss in a scarlet fog of hunger—for her body and her blood. But he is utterly unprepared for the new desire that overcomes him—to protect her.
Now Voss must battle his very nature to be with Angelica…but this vampire never backs down from a fight.
Review
The Vampire Voss is the first book in Colleen Gleason’s new series The Regency Draculia. I going to start off by saying that I am a huge fan of her first series the Gardella Vampire Chronicles. While I truly enjoyed The Vampire Voss, it did not quite have as good of a story development as the Gardella Vampire Chronicles. That being said, I did find the story to be fun and engaging with a nice mystery subplot. Gleason is very good at writing mysteries male characters that are neither good nor bad and Voss is defiantly one of them. He collects secrets about his own kind and sells them to the highest bidder. Everything Voss does is entirely for himself and purely for his own amusement. I have to say I am always drawn to the bad boys. For paranormal and historical romance lovers, The Vampire Voss will be a satisfying indulgence that will surely leave you hungering for more!

The Darkest Secret
Synopsis
Keeper of the demon of Secrets, Amun can manipulate the darkest thoughts of anyone nearby. But when the immortal warrior is chained and isolated to protect those he loves, death is his only hope of release—until he meets Haidee, a fellow prisoner whose beauty and hidden vulnerability draw him into a reckless test of his loyalty….
Haidee is a demon-assassin, raised to despise Amun's kind. Yet how can she hate the man whose touch sets her aflame? But to save him, she must give herself body and soul…and face the wrath of a powerful adversary sworn to destroy her.
Review
The Darkest Secret by Gena Showalter is the eleventh book in the Lords of the Underworld series. I was not sure that I was going to like the fact that Amun’s love interest was going to be Haidee a Hunter and Baden killer. How could Amun fall I love with the woman that killed his best Friend? But as usual, Showalter worked her magic and by the end of the book you sympathized with Haidee. They are enemy’s and yet they need each other in way that they cant deny. This book is filled with action, romance and humor. However, I do have to say that this was not my favorite book of the series. Though I always enjoy Showalter’s writing style and a visit with the Lords.
